Because of my job, I've stayed in this hotel for a week. The first thing I want to mention is the very friendly people who own this hotel, always interested in their guests. The kitchen is superb, a good mix of local and other dishes, nice clean rooms, a nice ambiance, free WiFi. Because of the fact that we had to leave for work, before the official breakfast hours, the owner gives is the oppertunity to make a little breakfast and lunch for ourselves including fresh coffee! That was a great service we thought! I surely return for a private visit in beautiful Sauerland and drive over the bridge I helped building.||Well deserved 5 stars!

I was born in the region and live for almost 10 years in Ireland. Whenever I get the chance to return home I have to be at least one night at the restaurant to enjoy their incredible food. You can chose whatever you would like to from the menu and you will not be disappointed. Especially during the hunting season I can highly recommend all deer dishes on the menu.

Very nice site and very nice People! Easy to discuss with them, and they do the best to make you happy. They are really willing to do it. ||The hotel is very clean, the food is very and so are the beers!! Two thumbs up !

The family hotel Schettel is situated in Sauerland in the quiet town of Bigge/Olsberg.||Approx.20 minutes away from Winterberg and Willingen.||The rooms are of a good standard. The chef of the restaurant, also the owner of the hotel, prepares regional specialities. The quality is very good and they have a good selection of German wines.||We were there in the period of December, so there were main courses with deer or wild boar, guinea fowl on the menu. Excellent prepared.||We stayed for several days and therefore we enjoyed also the well-stocked breakfast with fresh fruits, cheese, jams, etc.

Everything would be OK and acceptable BUT the attitude towards hotel's guests changed my opinion completely and left me feeling very uncomfortable at the very end of my stay.
Kind suggestions were treated as an offence and the owners were absolutely not flexible for guest needs and requests.
Not recommended unless you want to feel like during rigorous school camp again.

The Schettel sounds wonderful and I was so looking for a meal in their restaurant and a drink in the bar. It is however closed on a Tuesday and I was unable to stay any other time. As its the owners only day off they do not like you to intrude on their privacy. If you complain something isn't working they indicate it is and its your fault. So I had no wifi in my room and no telephone and no TV. The TV I realise might have been on standby and I am not a German speaker I could life without it. I asked my husband to phone and 3 times he couldn't get through. I heard the phone ring but it was dead when I picked it up. He did manage to get through to me on my mobile. Its quite creepy staying in a place where nothing is open and you feel like an intruder. Its looks wonderful but you are not made to feel welcome. Don't ask for anything and do not complain
